This thesis was written in compliance with the requirements for a Master of Arts in History at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Although its focus is the New Brunswick War Brides, this thesis can - and has been used to illustrate the broader experience of women from coast to coast. That is because their story of marrying a Canadian servicemen and leaving behind everything they knew to start a new life in post-war Canada is shared by all the War Brides, whether they ended up in Vancouver Island or Cape Breton. As such, the New Brunswick War Brides are a perfect example of the Canadian War Bride experience.

For many years, Melynda refused to put her Masters Thesis on the Internet because of concern that the information would be compromised. It has become apparent, however, that there is a real need for this kind of academic research on the Internet. And because she is one of the few persons to have studied the Canadian War Brides from an academic perspective, Melynda increasingly finds herself answering inquiries from school age children, high-school students and even university students from all over the world who are looking for accurate information on the Canadian War Brides. With a view to opening up her 14 years of research, Melynda has decided to put her Masters Thesis on line and let the whole world use it for the sole purpose of increasing awareness of the Canadian War Bride story.

Any reference to this thesis in ANY MEDIA and format must be properly footnoted and full credit for any information quoted in this thesis must be given to Melynda Jarratt.
