These totals are of the known cases only of marriage and children including the ones brought to Canada by the Department of Immigration previous to August 1944 (see Immigration Statistics Table). There are, however. a considerable number of cases in which marriages were not reported or Dependents Allowances asked for and also others for which no applications for transportation were made but private arrangements completed to come to Canada and the dependents are now putting for claims for refund. It is understood there were other marriages in various countries such as Norway etc. of which we have no record but which will turn up at a later date.
Since the above figures were compiled (Webmaster's Note: The statistics above refer to marriages and births up to December 31, 1946. This historical report of the Directorate of Repatriation is not dated but it was written sometime after the last sailing of War Brides in January, 1947) there have been reported 87 marriages and 32 births a total of 119 not included in above. It is therefore anticipated that the correct figures when other facts are available will bring the grand total well over 70,000.
