The passing of Johan Bain DeWitt occurred peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital in Oromocto on Wednesday March 9th, 2005 at the age of 80. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John Brown Hillis and Elizabeth (McFadyen) Hillis. She was employed until retirement as a civilian cook with DND. Johan was a member of Fredericton War Brides, War Bride Singing Club, Silver Dolphin's Swim Club, Ladies Auxillary Oromocto branch 93.
She is survived by her children Elizabeth (Frank) Burley of Barrie, Ontario, Luke (Claudette) DeWitt of Fredericton, John DeWitt of Burton, Susan DeWitt of Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren Patricia (Doug) Oggelsby of Barrie, Ontario, David (Karlene) Burley of Ottawa, Ontario, Luke Curtis DeWitt of Fredericton, Michele DeWitt of Fredericton; great grandchildren Samantha and Daniel Burley of Ottawa, Britany, Morgan and Joshua Oggelsby of Barrie; sisters Helen and Susan Hillis of Loretto, Ontario; brother Peter Hillis of England; several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her husband Luke Curtis DeWitt Sr. on June 26, 1976 and a daughter Georgina Ann (Young) DeWitt on August 9, 1986.
Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton with visitation on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Church in Oromocto on Saturday March 12th, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Father Ken Weir officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
